About St Peter’s, Bittering

This tiny church is approached via a country lane then along a field track and is set amongst fields. Although now in the care of the Norfolk Churches Trust Bittering St Peter is much loved and well looked after.

The church is a ‘single hall’ construction. Dating mainly from the mid-13th Century much of its charm lies in its simplicity; it has more of the feel of a chapel than a parish church. The inside of the church is simple and plain with white walls under an undecorated roof.

The font is Norman. The pulpit is Jacobean with several benches nearby of the same age all with distinctive carving. There is also a 15th century screen separating the nave from the chancel.
In the chancel are two ancient stone coffin lids with well-preserved carvings.
