About the Church of St Andrew, Great Dunham
St Andrews is a fascinating ancient Church where people have worshiped for nearly 1000 years. Although historians are not sure of the exact date of the Church’s foundation, it was built in the very late Saxon and early Norman period, so dates from around 1060 to 1100.
Some of the original Saxon and Norman features have survived, and the church has been modified over time. We have produced a ‘Heritage Detective Trail’ which describes fascinating features of St Andrews throughout the centuries, and is available to download here. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a fabulous way to discover the hidden history of St Andrew’s Church!
